Pennington

The Great River Road intersects with the northern terminus of the Ladyslipper Scenic Byway in Pennington. Chippewa National Forest hugs this rustic route, with some campgrounds and resorts tucked into the woods. A Chippewa National Forest visitor center is in an old log lodge at Norway Beach on Cass Lake, with naturalist and bike trails nearby. The route crosses the Mississippi River flowing from Cass Lake as a stream. Pennington Bog and a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps camp are other highlights.
